MODULE 3: Navigating the Path to Understanding: My Journey with PYP


Embarking on the inquiry-based learning journey initially felt like navigating through a maze of confusion. However, through collaboration with my year coordinator, the pieces started falling into place, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation for the PYP.

  1. The shift to inquiry-based learning was initially daunting. Questions loomed large - How would students respond? Could I effectively guide them through this approach? But, with the guidance of my year coordinator, the fog of confusion began to lift.

  4. Collaboration as the Key: The turning point was collaborative planning sessions. Working closely with my year coordinator, we delved into the core principles of PYP. Sharing insights and experiences not only clarified concepts but also ignited a shared passion for student-centered education.


  6. Deeper Understanding and Appreciation: As collaboration unfolded, my understanding of inquiry-based learning deepened. The emphasis on student agency and choice became clear, revealing the transformative potential of this approach. This newfound understanding sparked an appreciation for the power of PYP in fostering engaged and responsible learners.


  8. Future Collaborative Ideas: Looking ahead, collaborative planning holds immense potential. Ideas to enhance our approach include interdisciplinary projects to enrich learning experiences, encouraging student-led initiatives, and promoting ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of innovative educational practices.

While the journey into inquiry-based learning may start with confusion, collaboration is the compass that guides educators through the maze. My experience with my year coordinator not only clarified the principles of PYP but also instilled a profound appreciation for its transformative impact on student learning. As we continue on this path, collaboration remains the key to unlocking the full potential of inquiry-based education.

Making the PYP happen- Module 1

 Today I was to embark on my new learning journey into the PYP. After 17 years teaching in a South African school with a very ridged and boxed academic curriculum , I now wipe the slate clean and being navigating my way through uncharted waters! Starting today with module one , I am at a loss for the words to explain my emotions that I experienced- I felt so much despair as to how I was going to get to module 4 in one month as so much of what I was reading sounded like I was reading in a foreign language - day one of a first year teacher all over again!  I read the material, asked dear google to explain in dummy terms , I do feel they need to write a book  titled , “The PYP for Dummies” , and low and behold I managed to submit assignments on the first module.  The assignments helped to understand the practical workings of learner profiles and the importance of instilling soft skill in our students but also in myself in this ever changing landscaping.  I am looki...
