MODULE 3: Navigating the Path to Understanding: My Journey with PYP

Embarking on the inquiry-based learning journey initially felt like navigating through a maze of confusion. However, through collaboration with my year coordinator, the pieces started falling into place, leading to a deeper understanding and appreciation for the PYP. Module 2-

  As I started to read through module two, I must admit that I was initially apprehensive. The prospect of implementing a new and seemingly complex educational approach left me with doubts and questions. However, as the reading and collaboration with Annie went on and I delved deeper into the this module, I discovered that my apprehension was unfounded, and the experience has been incredibly rewarding. One of the key elements of this module that stood out to me was its emphasis on transdisciplinary learning and teaching. This approach encourages educators to bridge the gaps between different subjects, fostering a holistic understanding of knowledge. Through collaborations with my Annie and sharing our expertise, I realized that this approach not only benefits students but also enriches our teaching practices. Module 1 - it’s a wrap

 So the seas and waters have calmed since yesterday and I feel I can breath, I am sure it will be shorted live as I enter module 2 but for now I need to acknowledge small wins and what I have discovered about what is happening currently in my own classroom only 10 weeks into PYP setting : Through this module I have be able to identify that  1) I am fostering international mindedness through our schools celebration days and events this is our community. For me specifically we are lucky to have such a culturally diverse classroom and together we are learning and translation Japanese , Russian , Chinese , French  to name a few.  2) through our divers classroom we have learnt how important language is to our identity and being able to share those identities with each other creates a space of inquiry. Making the PYP happen- Module 1

 Today I was to embark on my new learning journey into the PYP. After 17 years teaching in a South African school with a very ridged and boxed academic curriculum , I now wipe the slate clean and being navigating my way through uncharted waters! Starting today with module one , I am at a loss for the words to explain my emotions that I experienced- I felt so much despair as to how I was going to get to module 4 in one month as so much of what I was reading sounded like I was reading in a foreign language - day one of a first year teacher all over again!  I read the material, asked dear google to explain in dummy terms , I do feel they need to write a book  titled , “The PYP for Dummies” , and low and behold I managed to submit assignments on the first module.  The assignments helped to understand the practical workings of learner profiles and the importance of instilling soft skill in our students but also in myself in this ever changing landscaping.  I am looki...
