Module 1 - it’s a wrap
So the seas and waters have calmed since yesterday and I feel I can breath, I am sure it will be shorted live as I enter module 2 but for now I need to acknowledge small wins and what I have discovered about what is happening currently in my own classroom only 10 weeks into PYP setting :
Through this module I have be able to identify that
1) I am fostering international mindedness through our schools celebration days and events this is our community. For me specifically we are lucky to have such a culturally diverse classroom and together we are learning and translation Japanese , Russian , Chinese , French to name a few.
2) through our divers classroom we have learnt how important language is to our identity and being able to share those identities with each other creates a space of inquiry. Children love that they can communicate to other students that have no English and yet still complete projects and tasks, the sense of accomplishment is priceless.
3) through our last unit on leadership I got students to identify with world leaders and compare their LP to their chosen leader and how we can set goal together for them to work towards or strengthen their LP’s.
4) through trans disciplinary learning and our UOI we focus on SDG to research and reflect on as a group. Coming from SA I am blown away by my students and how connected they are to worldwide challenges.
I found that through the first module I have been being these elements into my classroom without fully understanding and for the first time in my 17 years my students have become the teacher and myself a learner! How the roles have reversed.
Let’s wait in anticipation for what lightbulbs will be turned on my module 2!!!!
